We drove up Hwy #89A back to I-40 near Flagstaff. The weather here is MUCH cooler than what we left only an hour ago, but it’s over 7,000 ft so that would explain it. Much different vegetation – lots of pine forests and then low-growing Juniper.
We continued west and stopped in Seligman, AZ which is the beginning/end of the ‘Historic Route 66’ (“Get Your Kicks on Route 66”) and had a wonderful 2nd breakfast at the Roadkill Café! Excellent food and funky atmosphere … we’d eaten here before and liked it, being somewhat creatures of habit we are!
Then on to Kingman, AZ. We got to the RV park, the Blake Ranch RV Park and Horse Hotel, around 1:00 pm and were told the water was out till 2:00 pm. Not to worry, we’ll drive into Kingman proper (about 12 miles away) and get our groceries etc., and by the time we get back there’ll be water for laundry, cleaning, showering etc.
Update: We went back to visit family in Kingman in 2019 and spent 10 days or so exploring Kingman and some surrounding areas in Northwest Arizona. Check out our Post: Kingman, AZ
But the best laid plans … We got home and started a slow-cooker meal of chili and then headed for the laundry at the office only to be told “The water is off and we don’t know WHEN it’ll be back on!” Now that sucks as it’s the main reason we came here. I’ve got a laundry hamper overflowing and no clean underwear (too much information?) so now what? The closest alternative Laundromat is … Kingman … 12 miles away and right NEXT to the supermarket we just came from! So back we went and spent a lovely hour and a half battling for washers/dryers/folding spaces with what seemed to be the dregs of Kingman society! But … whatever, right?
We arrived home to a lovely pot of chili and water coming on at around 6:00 pm. We did a hasty clean up and we each took a long and wonderful shower (much needed!). Our ‘on demand’ hot water heater is still a nuisance … you’re either scalded or freezing. But … after 4 days of no washing it felt like heaven!
We’ll do some research tonight and then will head out to Death Valley to see what mischief we can get into!
