Last minute preparations!
Well, it’s getting down to the wire. We’ve got a little over 2 weeks to go before we head out on our 3-month long trip from the bottom of British Columbia to the top and into the Yukon. We may head into Alaska briefly but will make that decision when the time comes. So far we’ve only made one firm plan … and that is to make no plans!
Since we’ve been taking fly-fishing lessons from a local instructor/guide – Ian Muirhead – we think it will give us expanded opportunities for adventure. To that end, last week we went out and purchased our hip waders, boots, rods, reels and some line. More to buy and that will come when Ian takes us on our river trip hopefully next week. So far we’ve only ‘fished’ in fields and haven’t caught a thing!
All our gear was purchased from Robinson’s Outdoor Store in Victoria which is an amazing place. Fully stocked with everything you need for fishing – or any other outdoor sport for that matter! They’ve got a very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff who make the whole shopping experience fun.
The RV is in today getting it’s final mechanical check-up so we’ll be ready to go. We’ve already had some modifications done – a solar panel for camping off-grid, a tank-less hot water heater, new batteries etc. This work was all done by the friendly folks at Triangle RV in Sidney. They did our original tow package on our old Class A and this current vehicle – Class C. Plus Bruce has added some shelves to the big cargo holds over the driver/passenger seating. They will now be a lot more ‘user friendly’.
Now we just have to figure out food, booze (of course!), clothes etc. As we’ll be going on an extended paddling trip near Whitehorse we also have our tent, sleeping bags etc.
My biggest concern tho is worries about bugs. I’ve heard horror stories of being covered in mosquitoes and that just makes me cringe! We’ve bought some of those head net things AND we bought a screened room that will make sitting outside a bit more comfortable if the bugs are bad. Oh … and several bottles of mosquito spray! I just hope I don’t confuse that and the bear spray!!! LOL!
