If you live in your RV during the winter in an area that gets to freezing and below temperatures … you need to take precautions against your water line freezing.

Nothing worse than getting up in the morning and turning on the shower to find … nothing!  The water line has frozen solid!

A very simple, easy and inexpensive solution is to wrap a heated cable around your water hose.  These are available from most hardware stores and are made specifically to wrap around water lines in sub-zero weather.

We thought we had ours done – and ready for that freezing weather the other night.  But … this is a

new RV for us and we didn’t know that the water compartment (where the hose comes into the unit) is heated.  And … that’s where the heated cable is plugged in.  Unfortunately the cable has a thermostat that only turns the current on when the temperature drops below a certain level … and of course ours didn’t because of the heat.

So, yes … we did wake up to a frozen water line.  Once we got it thawed out, we dropped the thermostat down under the RV via an extension cord and that solved the problem.

Always something to think about!
