Living and traveling in our RV allows us to meet many people from all over the world. A lot of them travel with their furry companions … many of them travel this way BECAUSE of their furry companions.

My husband and I both love dogs; but after our Molly died some time ago we decided that we’d hold off on getting another one for a while, partly because of commitment issues and partly because of financial issues – both of which are important when owning a pet.

Instead we’ve chosen to

TRAVEL WITH STUFFIES!

It started out very innocently with a cute dog stuffie called a ‘Warm Buddy’. He came with a removeable sack in his belly that was filled with some kind of beans. You could remove it and warm it

in the microwave, then put it back into his belly which radiated a wonderful warmth on a cold day.

The ‘problem’ started when I began to use the warm buddy at night while watching TV. He kind of ‘woke up’ and began to take an interest in the shows, preferring anything involving space, explosions and (the best of all) zombies. He told us his name was “Me The Puppy” and he began to expect to watch movies with us every night or he’d howl till we settled him in front of the TV.

After watching a lot of these violent movies, he got the idea that he needed a pack of his own so he could be the leader of something (cool). And not just any sort of pack … other ‘carnivores’ like him! (?)

Thus began our hunt to create our stuffie pack. The first to be added was a little white bear we found at the Grand Canyon. Because he was white he insisted on being called a ‘spirit bear’ and he and the Puppy became best friends.

But … two stuffies do not make a pack, so next to be added was a coyote from Redding, CA called (oddly enough) ‘Yotee’. This made The Puppy very happy as now he felt he was gaining some ‘street cred’. (Very important apparently for a pack of carnivores!)

Yotee fit in well and began to learn the joys of space and zombie movies. But still the pack was lacking so we began to search for another pack member and found a great red fox at Fort St. James, BC.

Foxee was dubious about TV and movies in general but The Puppy soon convinced him of the merits of carnage and mayhem on the big screen.

The latest to join us was another bear, this time a black one … very small but adventurous … from Crescent Lake, WA. This bear is quite the character and manages to sneak into suitcases and backpacks when no one’s looking. He claims not to have a name and so is called simply ‘TB’ for ‘traveling bear’.

In addition to watching movies, the pack loves to travel and has a special spot in the rear of the RV where they snuggle on a pillow and look out the window hoping to catch glimpses of their ‘brethren’ in the wild. (Almost like TV apparently.)

So while we don’t have all the perks of live critters, we have an eclectic pack (that now The Puppy insists on calling his ‘crew’ … WAY too many crime movies!) that keep us company and makes us laugh. They each have their own personality and I truly don’t know sometimes where the stuff they say comes from!

Stay tuned for more adventures from the ‘Stuffie Pack’!
