FROM VICTORIA, BC TO WHISTLER, BC

After catching the 11:00 ferry from Victoria,  we made it to Whistler around 4-ish (May 7th) after a pretty hairy drive through downtown Vancouver.  Lots and lots of heavy traffic and lots of traffic lights.  But we made it through without mishap and pulled into Riverside RV park.  It’s very close to the townsite of Whistler so we walked into town on the paved, lighted trail for dinner.

We stopped for a beer at the Whistler Brewhouse, then a wonderful dinner at the Keg.  Amazing food and some very fine wine!  Since we were walking we didn’t have to worry about driving after all that booze!

Thursday the 8th looked like rain coming in the afternoon, so we got out early and got on our bikes to explore.  The trails are amazing.  They go for literally miles and miles and wind around lakes and some great mountain vistas.  Most of them are fairly level with some slight up-hills so no problems at all.  There are also numerous mountain bike paths for the thrill-seekers (not me!).

We’ll spend another night here while the weather is socked in and then tomorrow (the 10th) we’ll drive a short way up to near Pemberton where there’s a 200 ft waterfall.  There’s supposed to be good fishing there so hopefully the sun will come out and we can finally get some wilderness adventures going!

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT WHISTLER AND AREA

Whistler, B.C. is most known for it’s world-class skiing.  Two superb mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb which are accessed from Whistler townsite can give even the best skier loads of runs!

The town itself is beautiful, with a real European feel.  Tons of restaurants, shops and pubs all within walking distance makes it an amazing place to enjoy your apres ski!

During the summer, the crowds are a bit less yet there’s still lots to do.  There are miles of bike trails, a lot of which are level, paved trails for even the novice biker to enjoy.  They wind around beautiful lakes and superb mountain vistas.

If you’re more of a thrill-seeker, there’s also tons of dirt-bike trails from novice to ‘killer’!

There are many, many resorts, condos and hotels for accommodation, as well as 2 RV parks.  We stayed at the Riverside Resort/RV/Campground.  Beautiful grounds with numerous facilities and a short walk into town.
