ON THE ROAD – WHISTLER TO KAMLOOPS, BC

After leaving Whistler, we drove up Hwy #99 to Pemberton and stayed at Nairn Falls Provincial Park.  A smallish park but VERY clean and nice treed, private sites.  Once we got set up we took a drive into Pemberton to look around and have a coffee. Once back, we took a fine hike up to the falls which are quite impressive! Had a quiet night and then up and on the road again.

The drive through the mountains to Lillooet on Higway 99 is steep and windy, but the scenery is spectacular. Bit of a white knuckler for me!!

We traveled to Lillooet (mile zero of the Cariboo Hwy!) with intentions to stay in a paid RV park for showers etc., but none really existed so we decided to press on.  However, we took some time to poke around Lilloet, checking out Mile Marker Zero and the Old Bridge Across the Fraser River, which is now pedestrian only.  Interestingly there was an osprey sitting on the bridge, not far from her nest keeping a wary eye on us!

We stayed instead at Marble Canyon Provincial Park, which had a few sites backing onto a small lake, right next to the main road.  Bruce tried his hand at lake fishing but only succeeded in losing one of our new flies!  Still … much needed practice!

We then decided it was wing night and had a fine feast!

We headed out early again and decided to go through Kamloops instead of Hwy #97 so that we could check out Wells Gray Provincial Park.  On the way we decide to stop at Hat Creek Ranch (check out our next post) right on the junction of Highway 99 & 97.  It’s supposed to be amazing!

We stayed the nite in a paid park and had some much needed showers this morning.  The scenery has been spectacular so far .. and from here on it will be all new as neither of us has been beyond Kamloops.
